Capolago is a municipality in the district of Mendrisio in the canton of Ticino in Switzerland.
Capolago is located on the shores of Lake Lugano, and has a landing stage (Capolago Lago) that is served by the lake steamers. It has a station on the Swiss Federal Railways, and is also the lower terminus of the Monte Generoso Railway, a mountain railway that climbs to the summit of the nearby Monte Generoso.
Capolago was the birthplace of the architect Carlo Maderno. The town was also home to the historically-important Tipografia Elvetica press, which published propaganda during the Italian Risorgimento. In 1890, the premises of the printing firm hosted the Capolago Anarchist Congress, attended by Italian anarchist militants such as Pietro Gori, Amilcare Cipriani, Francesco Saverio Merlino and Errico Malatesta. During the Congress, a Revolutionary Anarchist Internationalist Party was founded.
